Hi, Friend.
I have some exciting news to share: This fall Danusha Laméris and I are going to co-teach a series of craft classes we’re calling “Writing Toward the Light.” We’re meeting every Sunday in October (10/6, 10/13, 10/20, 10/27) on Zoom, so you can join us from wherever you are.
You can learn more and register here.
Here’s some more about what we’re planning:
We love a poem of praise, but love it best when it nods—or bows—to difficulty. We want the poem to mirror our real lives: the beauty and wonder, yes, but also the difficulty and loss. Together we’ll spend four online sessions exploring poems that ferry us across rough seas, a lantern in hand.
Each Sunday will include a craft discussion of some of our favorite poems, a Q&A period, and an in-class writing session. Participants will receive packets of the poems and prompts we feature in class. Together we’ll develop new strategies we can apply to existing drafts and to brand-new work, and we’ll build creative momentum to carry forward into our own writing practices.
I can’t think of a better way to refocus, spend time in community, and get some inspiration and momentum at the beginning of each week than through poetry. This is a come-as-you-are class, no experience or prep needed. Bring an open mind, a pen, and paper. We’ll provide the course materials for you to take with you so you can reference them anytime you like. Recordings will also be available for participants, via a private link, in case you miss a session or just want to revisit it.

This will be special. I’m really looking forward to it, and I hope to see you there.
Love,
Maggie
