Recently Andrea Gibson said that facts make great writing prompts, and they do! I sometimes get inspiration from reading the news, or watching a history or science documentary, for this very reason. A fact can be a compelling entry into a poem or essay.

All of these would be terrific starting points. But I’ve been thinking about imagined facts, misconceptions, second guesses, and mistakes as kindling for poems, too. Let me explain.
