Hi, Friend.
I’m thrilled to announce that You Could Make This Place Beautiful will be out in paperback on Tuesday, June 4—and yes, pre-orders are so important, so if you want a smaller, softer, oh-so-packable, perfect-for-your-book-club paperback, I hope you’ll consider pre-ordering.
When the hardcover was released last year, I traveled around the country having incredible, life-giving conversations with writers I admire, and meeting so many readers in person. I got to have meaningful chats with people while signing their books, and there were plenty of hugs. I’ve been holding those moments close this past year, and now I get to do it again on the paperback tour the first week of June.
If I’ll be in your neck of the woods June 3-8, I hope you’ll come, bring your friends, and say hello. I’m looking at you, Columbus, Brooklyn, Boston, Austin, Portland, and Seattle.

The Gramercy Books kickoff event in my neighborhood is a signing only, a day before pub day, and that means you’ll be able to get the book before everyone else! (And yes, of course, I’ll sign copies of my other books, too.)
Big, big thanks to Isaac Fitzgerald, Joanna Rakoff, Grace Farris, Kimberly King Parsons, and Jane Wong, for joining me at these events. I admire their work, and I know I’ll be inspired by these conversations. What a gift.
We’ll have a great time together. See you soon!
Love,
Maggie
Maggie, I am a new subscriber (but not a new reader :-) and live in the Seattle area. I'm gonna grab a writing friend and see if we can make it to the Hugo House for the June event. It would be a delight to tell you in person how much I enjoy your work.
Congratulations, Maggie!! I'm so excited for the paperback—not that I needed an excuse to revisit it. Your memoir remains a favorite, both for its craft and the beautiful story of hard-won lessons and transformation. I'll see you in Seattle in June!
