For some reason your pep talk made me think of the following by Wendell Berry:

the seed is in the ground

now may we rest in hope

while darkness does its work.

I saw that on my beautiful neighbor (poet and essayist) Lia Purpura's daily outdoor poem black board, a pep talk for thinking of darkness in a different way -- darkness being something that gets in my way of thinking I have anything to say that could be helpful. just do it...

thanks for the pep talk!

I love Wendell Berry's work (and Lia Purpura's, too). Thank you for this!

Love this. I know it, I've heard it, I've said, and yet it's one of those things you can never hear too many times. I really needed to hear it again this week. Thanks, thanks!

All of this! I was talking to one of the high school teachers after the event about how sometimes we need to hear the same thing over and over, from new people and in new contexts. I knew it, but that day I received it differently. Glad this was a useful reminder for you, too, Brianne. x

I love this pep talk and couldn't have said it better. The other day I was thinking about how I have a tiny student-grade art desk, not a big open-air studio with tons of space to wander and muse (which is overrated anyway) and I’m producing a huge solo art exhibition. Part of which is a fifteen-minute film that has been giving me anxiety! So this post is the fuel I need to keep going with that part of the project. Just do it. I'm going to tape that saying on my wall. Thanks Maggie!
