What an awesome neighborhood! May every kid have a cloud of loving adults around them, like this!

Yes! And as a single parent, I’m especially appreciative of the chosen family all around us. 💗

As much as I would love for Rhett to just be a little boy forever, I am SURE the human he is will just keep leaving his people in smiles and love and astonishment. Cheering him on from the desert I am!

Much love to you my sweet friend. Sending hugs all around ❤️

I love this for you and your kids. That community and the traditions seem to have held you through those early and not so early years of motherhood. The shared tears and laughter. I felt that in Chicago we had to scramble for good schools and always seemed to be traveling outside of our neighborhoods to find them. However my kids did make a few friends early on that they are still connected to. Part of the bittersweetness of lasts is that yes the new firsts are still mostly unseen...we have to remember to trust that we will find them. 😌

Yes! Part of the bittersweetness is exactly that—not knowing what the nexts will look or feel like. Thanks for this, Lizzie.

Love this. I grew up in and raised my own, now grown sons in a small town. I always feel like the children in our valley belong to us all- we celebrate their wins, transitions and milestones and grieve when there is a small disappointment or a tragedy. I love being connected to my community and sharing the joy and heartbreak that comes with it. 💗

Yes, exactly. We live in a much smaller town than I grew up in, even—just 20 minutes from here by car—and I think it makes a huge difference in how connected and grounded we all feel. We’ve needed that. 💗
