Yay! I listen to The Slowdown daily, usually as a soothing balm after my morning news podcasts, and have been looking forward to this since you mentioned it at the Bexley Library event with Saeed. (I was the lone dork who cheered at the mention, haha.)
Modpo (https://modpo.org) changed my life - and I'm sure I wouldn't be here, subscribed, had I not stumbled upon it some 10+ years ago. At its core is an absolutely free MOOC (massive open online class) offered by the University of Pennsylvania under the direction of Al Filreis. It is a true treasure chest of poetry, learning, and community opportunities. I still participate regularly and meet almost monthly with a small group to close read a few poems. As an example, just a few weeks ago we met in person and discussed Everything's a Fake by Fanny Howe, a prose poem "about" the Hollywood Hills - we live in So Cal and some of us have been directly impacted by the fires, and Medium Poem by Eileen Myles. It's a very welcoming program and can very much be a place of respite.
Insomnia and poetry, baby— our bedrock 😉
Can’t wait to tune in for the Slowdown! xo
Truly, now more than ever!
Congratulations Maggie! Looking forward to it.
Thank you, Sheila.
